Choose the workflow first
A built-in display and a phone-based controller solve the same basic viewing problem in different ways. Start by listing the device you already own, the way you transport your kit and the steps you are willing to complete before each flight. The better choice is the one that fits that routine and is supported by the aircraft.
For a phone-based setup, verify the exact controller, mobile device, operating system, app and connecting cable. Check whether your phone fits the holder with its case. A familiar brand name or a matching connector is not enough evidence that the complete setup is supported.
What a built-in display changes
With a compatible screen controller, you have a dedicated display in the kit. That can simplify the equipment you assemble at the launch point. It does not remove the need to prepare the controller: check charging, firmware, account and connectivity requirements before leaving home.
DJI describes its original DJI RC as a controller that can connect to its supported aircraft without connecting a smartphone. That is an example of the workflow, not a compatibility promise for DJI RC 2 or any other controller. Use the current support information for the exact aircraft-controller pair.
Compare the upgrade cost fairly
Compare two listings for the same aircraft and check whether the batteries, bag, charging hub and other inclusions also change. If several components differ, the price difference is not solely the cost of a better controller. Write out those differences before deciding what you are paying for.
- Keep a compatible phone-based controller in consideration if it meets your needs and leaves room for essential accessories.
- Consider a display-equipped kit if a dedicated viewing device solves a specific setup problem for you.
- Do not assume a controller bought separately will pair with an aircraft you already own.
Check these two configurations
Compare the current inclusions of the DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo with DJI RC-N3 and the DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo with DJI RC2. Read the exact battery and accessory lists rather than treating the names as identical bundles.
Use the two-kit cost worksheet to include any equipment you would still need. Prices and availability are shown on the product pages.
