THE BUYER’S WORKSHEET

Compare the whole kit, not just the drone.

Two boxes can contain the same aircraft and still offer very different value. Use this checklist to compare what you will actually take out flying.

Start with the footage you want

Write down your main use before comparing prices: family travel, landscape photography, immersive FPV footage or a defined business task. Then identify what would stop a kit doing that job. It might be the controller, camera features, transport size or a missing accessory. A cheaper kit is poor value if you must replace a major component immediately.

Compare the exact model and bundle name. A familiar aircraft name does not confirm which controller, battery type or charging equipment is supplied. Use each listing’s included-items list and the manufacturer’s compatibility information, rather than assuming two similarly named combos match.

Six things to check before comparing price

CheckRecord for each kitWhy it matters
ControllerExact model; built-in screen or compatible phone requiredCheck your phone, connection cable and app requirements if the controller needs a phone.
BatteriesQuantity and exact battery typeDifferent battery versions may change weight and operating specifications. Do not compare quantity alone.
ChargingHub, wall adapter, required wattage and cableA hub in the box does not necessarily mean a suitable wall adapter is included.
StorageUsable built-in storage; supported memory card specificationConfirm capacity and recording compatibility against the manufacturer’s requirements.
ProtectionBag, gimbal cover, spare propellers and any optional care planCheck what the care plan covers and any additional claim fees before treating it as equivalent to another offer.
Seller and deliveryFinal delivered price, dispatch estimate and published warranty processA price comparison should include the full checkout total and the terms you will rely on after purchase.

Compare two kits by total cost

Enter AUD amounts from the current listings. Add only the accessories you need that are missing from each kit. These are your own figures, not live quotes. The worksheet stays in this page and is not submitted to DAA.

Enter costs to compare your kits.

Example: a $1,200 kit needing $180 of accessories and $20 delivery totals $1,400. A $1,350 kit needing no extras and $20 delivery totals $1,370. The second costs $30 less overall—provided its equipment meets the same needs.

Read specifications in context

A headline video resolution is one part of a camera comparison. Check the recording modes you will use, stabilisation, image formats and editing requirements. Manufacturer flight-time figures also need context: read the test conditions and allow for the way you intend to fly. This worksheet does not estimate usable flight time.

Do not assume more expensive means more suitable. Start with the minimum kit that meets your actual requirements, then price the upgrades that solve a specific problem. If you cannot explain why an accessory helps your planned filming, leave it out of the initial comparison.

Put the checklist to work on DAA products
