Somewhere new.

Plan a lighter kit, a realistic shot list and a trip that brings back footage worth keeping.

Plan the flight before packing

Make a short list of possible filming locations, then check whether flying and filming are permitted at each. A picturesque lookout or quiet beach is not automatically an approved launch site. Check airspace and the rules of the land manager, including parks, councils and private owners.

For overseas travel, check the destination’s drone rules and entry requirements before departure. Registration or permissions may be required, and some countries restrict drones. CASA’s travel guide below is a starting point for that research.

Choose the kit you will carry

Think about the entire bag: aircraft, controller, batteries, charger, phone and storage. On a walking trip, a compact complete kit may be more useful than a larger aircraft you leave at the accommodation. Compare your charging options with the power available during the trip.

Pack the aircraft securely and prevent parts moving around in transit. Keep batteries away from loose metal objects. Spare lithium batteries must travel in cabin baggage with protected terminals; check the airline’s size, quantity and approval rules.

Build a simple travel sequence

  1. Establish the place. Capture an uncluttered view that helps a viewer understand the setting.
  2. Find a detail. Look for textures, shapes or a landscape feature you can frame safely.
  3. Add a ground-level moment. Use your phone for people, food or a conversation that gives the aerial view context.
  4. Finish with a favourite view. Choose one image that sums up the day rather than keeping every clip.

You do not need to fly close to people or obstacles to tell a story. Frame from a safe position and keep the aircraft in sight. Leave time to land comfortably before the conditions change.

Keep the memories safe

Each evening, copy the original files to a second location and check that several play correctly. Name folders by date and location. Keep your best clips separate from the full backup so you can make a short edit without sorting everything again.

For a specific packing comparison, review the DJI Mini 5 Pro (RC-N3) kit and browse drone batteries by supported model. Check the exact battery type, aircraft compatibility and your complete packed weight before adding equipment to your travel kit.
