FLIGHT NOTES / THE CHECKLIST

Build your adventure kit.

Drone. Power. Storage. A plan. Pack the essentials and check compatibility before buying anything extra.

01 / Start with the exact aircraft.

Check the full model name and bundle on your order. Confirm the controller, phone connection or goggles required and what is included in the box. Similar-looking batteries, propellers and controllers are not automatically interchangeable.

Read the aircraft manual and set up its app before leaving home. Complete any required activation or updates with enough time for a test and a fresh battery charge.

02 / Match the power to the outing.

Check the number and type of batteries in your combo. If you want more flight sessions between charges, compare a compatible spare battery with the cost of a larger bundle. Allow time to cool and recharge batteries according to the manual.

  • Charging hub: confirm whether it charges batteries one at a time or together, and whether a wall adapter is included.
  • Power adapter and cable: match the manufacturer’s supported charging protocol and output. A plug that fits does not guarantee the right charging performance.
  • Controller and phone: charge these too. Check any power bank against the equipment’s requirements.
  • Battery care: inspect batteries for damage or swelling, follow the storage instructions and keep them out of a hot parked car.

03 / Give your footage somewhere to go.

Choose a memory card from your aircraft manufacturer’s compatibility list. Match the supported capacity and recording speed for your chosen video mode. A controller’s card slot may serve a different purpose from the aircraft’s recording storage.

Back up anything you need before formatting a card in the device. Record and review a short test clip before the trip. Bring a suitable card reader or transfer cable and a plan to back up the day’s footage.

A fitted bag, gimbal protector and compatible spare propellers help protect the kit. Remove transport covers before powering up as the manual directs. Add filters or other extras only when they solve a specific filming need.

04 / Pack a plan as well.

Check airspace in a CASA-verified app, local access permissions, weather and the aircraft’s operating limits. Identify a clear takeoff and landing area. Pick a few simple shots, and plan to land with a safe battery reserve.
